After Montenegro and the Bay of Kotor, Corfu greeted us with a bright orange-yellow sunrise over Greece’s northwest coast on the Ionian Sea.
A Quick Cab Into Corfu Town
A quick cab ride into Corfu Town and we were ready for the day.
Meeting Ariti for a Food Walking Tour
We met our guide, Ariti, right away at the meeting point, and we were off and running — about 3.5 hours of walking, history, and storytelling, with lots of food along the way.

“Breakfast”: Pies, Pastries, and Greek Yogurt
The first stop was “breakfast,” which included spinach pies and cheese pies, donuts and pastry, and Greek yogurt — all delicious, in a tiny bakery shop with the nicest people running it.

Chilled Custard and a Local Butcher Shop
Next was another tiny place for chilled custard (think rice pudding without the rice), followed by a local butcher shop for smoked pork, feta, and “yellow” cheese.

Olive Oil, the Open Market, and Local Honey
We stopped at a spice shop for an olive oil tasting and bought spices and olive oil to bring home. Then we walked through the open market, filled with beautiful produce and a ton of fishmongers. We sampled local honey, and each couple was given a small jar to take with them.

Lunch: Ouzo, Tzatziki, and Two Beef Dishes
Our last stop was for “lunch” — ouzo, fresh bread, tzatziki, eggplant spread, Greek salad, and two beef dishes: one with tomato, cinnamon, and pasta, the other with lighter Greek flavors and French fries(?), which our guide said wasn’t traditional.

Our Take
A lovely day in Corfu.
