Valencia: Requena Wine Caves on a Day the City Didn’t Cooperate

After Montserrat’s mountain abbey and a full day of Gaudí in Barcelona, Valencia was next — and it turned out to be a bit of a miss, though not because of Valencia itself.

A Sunday and a Marathon Working Against Us

Our options in port were limited today. It was a Sunday, so many places weren’t open, and a marathon running through the city of Valencia had roads blocked off on top of it.

The Requena Wine Caves

Given the circumstances, we chose to visit the Requena wine caves for a tour and tasting instead. The caves themselves were very interesting, and the winery was welcoming, with a cava that was very good. Clearly plenty of other people had the same idea that day — the winery was quite crowded.

Our Take

We look forward to returning someday and actually seeing Valencia proper.
