Lanzarote: Timanfaya’s Volcanic Landscape, a Camel Named Margarita, and Our Last Port Before the Atlantic

After Mount Teide’s crater, Bodega Monje, and a Canarian feast in Tenerife, Lanzarote was next — our last port of call before six days at sea.

Timanfaya Volcano Park

We toured Timanfaya Volcano Park, more impressive and interesting natural views in a landscape that feels like nowhere else.

A Camel Named Margarita

Then came a highlight — our camel ride through the desert-like terrain. Our camel was Margarita, with the personality of a woman who’s had too much tequila. We laughed so hard during this little ride.

Mirador del Río

We moved on to Mirador del Río, with staggering views of the Atlantic.

Jameos del Agua

Our last stop was Jameos del Agua, an underground volcanic tunnel with a grotto, a restaurant, and an event space, all set within a natural formation. Very cool indeed.

Looking Ahead: Six Days Across the Atlantic

After all these adventures, we’re now looking forward to relaxing for six days sailing across the Atlantic back to the US.
