After a day in Salisbury, Winchester was the last of our three cathedral towns as we continued to move closer to Southampton for our cruise to Norway.

Arriving in Winchester

Upon our arrival by train, we dove right into the city, going along the main market street, High Street.

Winchester Cathedral

Passing through the town, we headed to the medieval Winchester Cathedral, and we were stunned by its intricate beauty. A truly magnificent cathedral.

The Cathedral Close, Bishop’s House, and Wolvesey Castle

From there we explored the Cathedral Close, the nearby Bishop’s House, and the old ruins of Wolvesey Castle.

On to Southampton

We then walked along the river back through the center of town to the train station and off to Southampton.

A Night at the White Star Tavern

We stayed at the White Star Tavern, a stone’s throw from where we’ll board our ship tomorrow. The White Star is a pub with a boutique hotel above it. The breakfast served as part of the stay was excellent and served right in the pub.

A Last Night at The Jetty on the Harbour

For our last night, we treated ourselves to a nice seafood dinner at The Jetty on the Harbour, just a quick walk from the White Star. We highly recommend The Jetty for an upscale night out.
