Admittedly it was an ambitious plan: overnight flight from NY to London; Tube to King’s Cross Train Station; train to York. We needed good timing. Not so much. First, flight is cancelled 48 hours before the trip which delayed everything by five hours requiring alterations is the remaining schedule. Ok…done. Then a fatality on the tracks in the morning causing all northern rail service to stop for over four hours…chaos.

We wound up only 40 minutes delayed but it was wall to wall people while we waited (we built a 90 minute bounce for good measure) and our train (the first with service to York all day) was SRO. Nothing like a two hour train ride standing in the aisle with luggage after a red eye flight. But we made it!! Checked in, showered and dinner at a local pub…The Duke of York.

And a stroll through the Shambles back to finally sleep.
