After Museum Gardens and dinner at Fish & Forest, we spent our last day in York taking things slow.

A Lazy Sunday of Shopping and Wandering

With on-and-off showers, we spent a lazy Sunday morning shopping and continuing to let this city unfold for us.

Lunch at Pairings Wine Bar

As lunch approached, we stopped in for a bite at Pairings Wine Bar. We’d read wonderful things about Pairings and the many options they have to craft a charcuterie board that suits you perfectly. Everyone who knows us knows this type of lunch — local meats, cheeses, fresh bread, and wine — is something we crave. The little pork pie in pastry was a smashing addition and endemic to York. Pairings lived up to its reputation.

A Gin Tour at Hooting Owl Distillery

And to cap it off, a tour of Hooting Owl Distillery. So much fun learning about and tasting gins. When you arrive, you’re treated to a gin and tonic, then a tour of the distillery, a tasting of all the different gins, then a final gin and tonic of your choice. What a fun way to learn about gin!

Haunted York? We Came Up Empty

We’ve read repeatedly that York is the most haunted city in the UK — there’s even a ghost merchant on the Shambles, for heaven’s sake. We looked and looked. No luck. Oh well… maybe next time.

One Last Pub Dinner

Anyway, we wrapped up the day, and our time in York, with a steak and kidney pie at a local pub.
