After St. Michael’s Cave, the Siege Tunnels, and the Barbary apes in Gibraltar, we docked in Cádiz for our last stop in Spain, but the real destination for the day was Seville.

A Beautiful City, Two Must-Dos

What a beautiful city. Amazing buildings and tile work everywhere. We had to do two things while we were there: visit the Royal Alcázar — where Christopher Columbus received his papers for exploring the New World — and, of course, tapas.

The Drive from Cádiz with Spain Day Tours

We docked in Cádiz and had a tour booked to Seville with Spain Day Tours. The ride was about 1.5 hours and not a bad one.

Plaza de España

We stopped first at Plaza de España, the Spain pavilion from Seville’s World’s Fair. Stunning and quite interesting. From there, we were dropped into groups for walking tours. Seville is a lot like Rome, with winding streets and little squares with tapas bars everywhere.

The Royal Alcázar

We walked through to the Alcázar, which was very unique in its blend of styles and overall Moorish influence. We would have enjoyed it more if it hadn’t seemed like five million people were visiting that day — it’s high season in Seville.

A Tapas Lunch to Close It Out

Then we had a tapas lunch at a café. We could have spent all day there exploring this gorgeous city. It was very warm and welcoming. We would like to return.
