After a walking tour, fish & chips, and Pulteney Bridge, we spent our last day in Bath before heading on to Southampton.

The Roman Baths

We began our day at the Roman Baths. We’d originally been reluctant to book tickets, worried it might be a bit one-note and touristy, but fellow travelers encouraged us that our instincts were wrong. They were right. We were also glad we’d saved it for our second day — the historical perspective from the walking tour the day before gave everything we toured more meaning and weight.

A Sunday Roast at The Hive

By now, it should be clear that we seek out local food and traditions, and pubs when we can, to accomplish that while in the UK. It was Sunday, which meant it was time for a traditional Sunday roast. We chose The Hive (sadly we later learned this closed), just over Pulteney Bridge, with a view of the Weir and the river. Terrific service, wine, and lunch, all with that view over the water. This one ticked every box and will be long remembered from our weekend in Bath.

A Walk Along the Avon Canal

We stayed on this side of the river for the afternoon, exploring the Avon canal walk through Bath and making our way back to our hotel to close out this wonderful weekend.

Tomorrow morning we take the train to Southampton to board the Island Princess for a cruise through the Mediterranean to Rome.
