A Full Day in Bath: A Free Walking Tour, Fish & Chips, and Pulteney Bridge

After our arrival in Bath, we woke up ready for our first full day exploring the city.

A Free Walking Tour with the Mayor of Bath’s Honorary Guides

Since this was our first time in the city, we elected to take one of the free walking tours offered by The Mayor of Bath’s Honorary Guides, choosing their Classic City Centre Tour. A little over two hours, starting at 10:30am, it gave us a strong underpinning for our weekend — orienting us to the city, an overview of its history, and some ideas of what to do while we were here.

Lunch at The Scallop Shell

After the walking tour, our choice for Saturday lunch was one of our favorite dishes in the UK: fish and chips at The Scallop Shell. No need to say more. A friend recommended this restaurant, and their fish and chips was spot on.

An Afternoon Along Pulteney Bridge

We walked off lunch through the city and had a leisurely afternoon soaking up the sights, including Pulteney Bridge, the River Avon, and the Pulteney Weir. Where the three merge is the classic Bath photograph.

Cocktails at Circo

We stopped for a pre-dinner cocktail at Circo before heading to dinner.

Dinner at The Salamander Pub

Saturday dinner took us to The Salamander Pub. We started with hoisin pork belly bites and ham hock and smoked cheddar croquettes, followed by entrées of hot smoked salmon cake and parmesan-crusted hake.
