Palma de Mallorca: Exploring the City on Foot, Cathedral Included

After our relaxed day in Cartagena, our next port of call brought us back to Palma de Mallorca, a city we’d visited last year on a full day tour of the city and countryside.

Skipping the Tour This Time

Since we’d already done the full day tour of Palma and the surrounding countryside last year, this time around we wanted to experience the city without a tour and just explore it on our own.

Catedral-Basilica de Santa Maria de Mallorca

At the top of our list was the Gothic Roman Catedral-Basilica de Santa Maria de Mallorca and the complex surrounding it. The cathedral was closed last year, since we were there on a Sunday, so this was our first chance to actually get inside. It’s a masterpiece of a cathedral — for us, there were some similarities in the feel of the interior to La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

Colonnades and Side Streets

From there, we explored both the larger colonnades and the narrow side streets, soaking in the local color and ambiance at our own pace.
