Relaxing Prague: A Morning Stroll and a Hint of Wine

After a more local Prague with George and an evening at Vyšehrad, we had one more day to enjoy Prague.

On our last day in Prague, we wanted a low-key, relaxing day. Happy to report, we did. That does not mean we did not partake in the things that bring us joy while traveling.

A Morning Tram Ride to Letná Park

Following a leisurely breakfast, we hopped on a tram to Letná Park across the river. Side note: we have so enjoyed the easy, reliable, and inexpensive public transportation in all three major cities on this trip: Budapest, Vienna, and Prague.

From the tram stop, we walked through the park and stopped at the lookout point for some wonderful views, and photos, of seven bridges over the Vltava, including the Charles Bridge. The hills of this city produce terrific views.

From there, we descended down to the river and back over to Old Town and wandered through the Jewish District.

The Spanish Synagogue

A stop along the way was the Spanish Synagogue. Built in the 19th century, it is no longer an active place of worship. It is part of the Jewish Museum of Prague and houses an exhibit of Jews in Bohemia in the 19th and 20th centuries. The synagogue’s stunning Moorish interior design was allegedly inspired by the Alhambra Palace in Spain.

A quick note: the entry ticket you purchase is not just for the synagogue, but for all of the sites of the Jewish Circuit, including other synagogues and the Jewish cemetery (there is a map on the ticket).

Next Stop: Wine

That left the afternoon for the part of the day we’d been looking forward to most: a private wine tour of Prague’s hidden vineyards, all within the city limits, with Andrea of Wine Travel in Czech. Vineyards in Prague? We were curious too.
